Why "good advice" isn't changing anything

When was the last time you got really good advice… and still didn’t follow through❓

I’ve been thinking about the difference between advice and coaching lately.

Because I see it all the time. And I've totally experienced it too! We hear something that clicks. It gives us that little boost of motivation 💥. But a few days go by...and nothing really changes.

It's not because you don’t care about "the thing". It's because there's still something underneath there, blocking.

Humans don’t have a knowledge problem. You probably already know what you should be doing, right? Like speaking up or saying "no" more, setting boundaries, advocating for yourself, etc.

And yet… actually doing those things feels way harder than they sound. The real barrier usually isn’t what to do. It’s:

  • the fear of how it will be received

  • the stories you’re telling yourself

  • past experiences that are shaping how you show up now

  • the internal tug-of-war between what you want and what feels “safe”

The standard advice - "here's what you should try" - doesn’t get to that deeper level.

However, coaching does. 😀

It’s not about giving you the answer. It’s about slowing things down enough to understand what’s actually getting in your way. And then working through it in a way that feels real and sustainable for you.

➡️ Sometimes that means being asked a question that you weren’t expecting (or are hoping no one will ask you 😉).

➡️ Sometimes it means having someone challenge your self-limiting beliefs.

➡️ Sometimes it just means having someone reflect back what you can’t quite see on your own.

Over time, that’s what creates change that actually sticks. 💯

It's not just doing something once that creates sustained change. It's actually understanding yourself well enough to keep showing up differently, time after time. 🔥

Instead of trying to follow someone else’s formula (sure, something that may have worked for them), you’re actually:

  • understanding your patterns

  • challenging your own thinking

  • building trust with yourself 🙌

  • creating approaches that fit you

Coaching is different because it helps you build something more sustainable!

Not just: “I did the thing once.”

But: “I understand how to move through this, and I can do it again.”

If this is something you’ve been feeling lately, you’re not alone. I see this often -  you're a smart, capable, self-aware human being - and you're still feeling stuck in certain areas.

It’s not because you need more advice.

It’s because you need space to actually work through what’s underneath the surface and the "quick fixes". It's helpful to have someone to partner with you in that process, - an 'outer' voice that can challenge the 'inner' voice.

If that’s something you’re curious about, let's have a conversation!
