š¾What My Dog Taught me About Self-Love

Our dog, Cali, came into our lives when she was just 8 months old ā a super sweet, aloof,Ā rescue pup who immediately stole our hearts. My husband and I love her so much.š¾š
Ā
What amazes meĀ though, is how much love she gives us. Even when Iāve lost my patience or accidentally stepped on her paw (the guilt!), she continues to show up with total, unconditional love. She follows me around the house, looks at me with complete admiration, and gets visibly sad when I grab my purse to leave.
Ā
Thereās something so pure about that ā this creature who doesnāt keep score, doesnāt hold grudges, and simply believes Iām worthy of love, no matter what.
And it got me thinkingā¦
We extend that kind of unconditional love to our pets, our families, our friends. But how often do we give it to ourselvesāļø
This time of year can feel especially full ā juggling responsibilities, giving overselves to everyone else, trying to keep all the plates spinning - it can feel like a lot! And then through all of that, itās so easy to focus on the things we didnāt get right...Ā the moments we fell short...or the ways we couldāve done more.
Ā
But what if, just like Cali, we practiced seeing ourselves with more compassion and love?
Here are a few small ways to start:
ā“ļø Notice your effort, not just your outcomes. Give yourself credit for the things youāre trying to do ā even the small, quieter efforts that no one else sees.
Ā
ā“ļø Speak to yourself the way you would to someone you love. If you wouldnāt say it to your best friend (or your dog!), it doesnāt belong in your self-talk.Ā š«
Ā
ā“ļø Pause before you rush to fix or do more. Sometimes the kindest thing you can do is stop and simply acknowledge: āIām doing the best I can right now.āĀ š
