Do you hear that… that voice inside your head? It’s that persistent, nagging companion many of us share — the sabotaging voice. It's that inner critic... that incessant whisper…spewing doubt, fear and criticism at the most inconvenient of times! On the surface, it seems like it’s there to keep us safe. However, it typically works overtime to hold us back from our own growth and development. And I do declare... I’m here to help empower the good people (that you!) to G-R-O-W!
For most of us, the sabotaging voice is deeply ingrained – like it's on auto replay. 🔁 It's so seamlessly woven into our internal and external dialogue, that it often feels like the cold, hard truth. In turn, our self-sabotaging behaviors are usually unintentional and many of us behave this way as an misguided attempt to protect ourselves from difficult experiences and scary emotions.
Identifying the Sabotaging Voice:
Here are just a few phrases that might signal the presence of the sabotaging voice:
"I won't be successful."
"What will people think?"
"That'll be too hard."
"I don't know how to do that."
“I’m not _______ enough”
Do any of those sound familiar?
Recognizing these phrases as potential self-sabotaging cues can be the first step in unveiling this inner critic of yours.
So, now that you’re listening👂… and you’ve started to hear and identify it… what's next?
Things to Try on Your Own:
💜 Identify and Observe: Create space for your thoughts and pay attention to the internal and external dialogue. You can start to differentiate between your authentic voice (that’s the “good” one… we like this one!) and the one that's holding you back from your wants and desires (the saboteur).
💜 Run Interference: Through reflection and challenging these thoughts, beliefs, and behaviors, you can start to interrupt the sabotaging voice's narrative and replace it with empowering and constructive thoughts…cue the reframe! 🖼️
Working with a certified coach can also be a powerful partner in your journey of self-discovery. They will help you first identify, then separate, and positively interfere with the sabotaging voice. By bringing awareness to the internal narratives that are happening, you can start to challenge and reframe negative thoughts. Then, in turn, get you moving forward in the direction you desire! #empowerment
Are you ready to change your relationship with the sabotaging voice and embrace growth? 💪
