Stop Waiting For 'Someday'

For years, earlier on in my professional career, I thought that if I just show up, do hard work, keep my head down... eventually someone will notice and give me what I want and what I deserve.
➡️ Spoiler alert: it doesn't happen like that.
Sure, I was seen as “the dependable one” — which I think we can all agree basically means the person we can pile more work on because they won’t complain.
And what I've learned through coaching clients and conversations with friends, this is pretty common. We tell ourselves:
“I don’t want to rock the boat.”
“My boss is so busy, I don’t want to bother them.”
“I’ll ask for what I need once things calm down around here.”
“I don’t want to seem pushy. I just want my work to speak for itself.”
Sound familiar? (I’ve used every single one of those excuses, too. 🙋🏻♀️)
Here’s the truth: if you’re waiting for the "perfect time" to speak up, I'm here to tell you - that "perfect time" doesn't exist. There will always be another busy season, another big project, another reason why you should just keep waiting.
Meanwhile… you stay stuck. Frustrated. Burnt out. Wondering why all your hard work isn’t paying off.
And I say this with love: it’s not about working harder. It’s about advocating for yourself. Something I am so fucking passionate about!
Self-advocacy is how you:
▶️ Stop volunteering for every little thing that crosses your desk
▶️ Ask for opportunities instead of quietly hoping you’ll be picked for it
▶️ Create boundaries so you actually have energy left at the end of the day to do things important to you
▶️ Start shaping a career that feels aligned with who you are
Now, don't get it twisted - this doesn’t mean marching into your boss’s office tomorrow demanding a raise, a promotion, and a corner office (although if that’s you, I’ll be cheering from the sidelines). 📣
What I do mean is learning how to clearly, calmly, and consistently speak up for what you need, want, and deserve — without feeling fake, pushy, or like you’re letting everyone else down.
This is the exact work I love helping people with 💜 AND it’s what we’ll be diving into in our upcoming workshop: Getting What You Want From Your Career (Without Selling Your Soul).
