Feeling Like You’re Not Doing Enough? Let’s Talk.

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve caught myself scrolling social media or hearing about someone’s big promotion and immediately spiraling into "ugh, I’m so behind". Sound familiar? 🙋♀️ It’s like these beautiful brains of ours are wired to measure our worth by what everyone else is doing #comparison.
Here’s the thing: comparison feels harmless at first—just a passing thought, right? But over time, it entrenches deeper and gets sneakier...it starts to whisper things like:🔸 They’re better at this than you’ll ever be.🔸 Why even try when you’re already so far behind?🔸 You’re clearly not doing enough.
Oh, that darn " not enough" thought. (that's a strong one for me at least!) When I’ve been deep in it myself, I’ve noticed that it doesn’t just make me feel crappy—it actually stalls me.
I hesitate to apply for opportunities I’d be amazing at. I overthink emails/texts. I worry way too much about what people will think if I speak up. Before I know it, I’m stuck, second-guessing every move, and completely disconnected from what I want for myself.
So if you’ve been there too (and I know so many of us have), here’s what’s helped me climb out of that comparison spiral:
✨ Notice and intercept it. When I'm able to notice myself comparing, I try to pause and identify what I'm comparing. What am I seeing/noticing in someone else? And where do I see that trait in myself? It exists in YOU... or you wouldn't be able to identify it in others.
✨ Celebrate my own wins—whatever the size. Whether it’s nailing a tough conversation or just taking a lunch break when I needed it, acknowledging these moments reminds me that I'm doing and being something.
✨ Talk it out. Sharing these feelings with a friend, mentor, or coach always helps. Saying it out loud takes the power away from the negative thought and replaces it with support and perspective.
✨ Remember what I want. My goals, my values, my vision for life. Because chasing someone else’s idea of success never feels as good as pursuing what truly lights me up.☀️
If comparison has been keeping you stuck or doubting your next move, please know you’re not alone—and you’re definitely not behind. You’re on your own path, with your own timing. And the world needs what only you can bring!
If you're interested in hearing more of my thoughts and experience with this, I share a lot more with the brilliant Paul Briley, on his Off the Comma podcast. I guested back in May 2023 (Ep. 13), and I share my personal story around comparison to others.
